Hi, will put a fix out for this in the iOS app -- right now there's an issue with some special characters in the password (% # &)
  • Re: Apple iPhone/iPad client
    Board » General Discussion
Version 2.5.0 of the iOS client is now in beta testing, including DC-aware predictors, some new chatroom features, etc. If you don't already have the beta on TestFlight, download the TestFlight app and click on this link to join: https://testflight.apple.com/join/hHkN9079
  • macOS client now on the App Store
    Board » General Discussion
Given Apple's further integration of macOS and iOS, the Sailonline client is now available on Macs that are running the latest operating system, macOS 11 Big Sur.

The link to the App Store remains the same and will redirect you to the appropriate app to the device you're using: https://apps.apple.com/app/id1522091176

Please let me know if you encounter any issues, or if you see ways to improve the app.

    Hi!
    1) You're welcome
    2) You have to find your phone's IP address on your network. If on Wi-Fi, for example, press the info button in the Settings app under Wi-Fi and check the IP address there.
If on cellular, though, it might be tricky: mine uses an IPv6 address, which I don't think qtVlm can query, plus your phone company may not allow your phone to be a server! So, go WiFi.

Also, see the help pages if you want to run qtVlm and Sailonline on same iPad (doesn't work on iPhones): http://sol.dancostin.com/help/nmea/

Most IRL races certainly have a rule about data used having to be freely available to all once the race start. But that doesn't mean you can't use Expedition, for example. It means you can't use PredictWind routing, or other professional services. So, dtayls, what did you have in mind with the rule? Just cover for-pay weather services? I assume no one's using that now, but you think if the server was using something that was made unavailable through the rules, it would be more like real life? I'd agree. But, the counterargument is that we're not actually living on the boats so you need some measure of predictability.

In Grib->Grib configuration (or the windsock in the toolbar, or ctrl-G), there's a Label configuration item to show a number.

I don't know that you can control the level of simplification and optimization, other than Optimum/Maximum (the names of my next 2 dogs, and I'll never know which is which).

Great! I updated the polar icon anyway, I like the new spidery one, see screenshot.

    Thanks mfa_wsg for all that.

    - display settings are set on the device, look in the Settings app, Display & Brightness. On my phone I also added that to my Control Center for quick switching (swipe down from top right corner, add controls in Settings->Control Center)

    - the name of that icon in the bottom right is radio waves, so, yes, you're right. I thought it reflected the shape of the polars, I'll try to think of something better, maybe use the Sailonline logo? I'm trying to use built-in icons for a consistent look, and Apple hasn't yet designed an icon for yacht racing polars :-)

    - I need to rework the polar window at some point -- it was the first thing I did in the app, and it's gotten a bit old already, so, yes, I'll add some options for low wind

    - will need to add TWS/TWD labeling

    - there a tag at the bottom of the screen that gives you timing to the next DC, when there is one; do you mean something additional?

Thanks again for reviewing all the features!

Round Greenland 2024

Just as Skip Novak was embarking for Kamchatsky, Amyr Klink also quietly slipped his Antarctica moorings and by now Paratii 2 has reached Reykjavik, where he invites you to join him on Leg 5 of our High Latitudes Series, a full 3650nm circumnavigation of Greenland. The course is clockwise round, so down the North Atlantic to Cape Farewell, then up the Davis Strait into Baffin Bay and on into the Arctic Ocean proper, where, hopefully and certainly virtually, Paratii 2’s special ice-breaker features will get us thorough the summer ice out onto the Greenland Sea and back to Reykjavik. Stay warm!

San Francisco to Ushuaia 2024

After a superlong RTW-leg3 (27 days), we have had a month to recover, and maintain our boat, in order to continue our around the world race. Leg 4, even longer than the previous, takes us from California to the world's southernmost city Ushuaia. No waypoints, even "the Ditch" is an option, but maybe a bit too much of a treat. With 6300 nm to go, the estimated duration of this race 29 days. This course is also the August edition of our ocean race championship.
