Could the SRC bring to light the reasons for such a choice?

Was the weather forecast considered in the decision-making process, as it was in the Silverrudder, for example? If so, how?

20170426 Forum - Suggestion - "Search" feature

During Jakob's race, I went aground in 'invisible' land. After some thought, the boat being battered against the rocks, I changed the "map tile radius" to 1 and the "Max map polylines" to 1500.

It was a wild guess, but the coastline appeared again.

I returned the "Max map polylines" to 500, and the coast vanished again.

If my memory is not failing me, Smo also reported that the coastline was missing.

From this experience, I suppose the default settings are not enough to ensure the HIRES map will be fully visible in the Android app, and that users should be aware that they have to adjust the map configurations to avoid the problem.

PS.: I have the 0.53 version running on a Galaxy S7 with Android 7. The same issue was observed on a Moto Z with Android 7.

I have always had different port numbers for each race, and I had never had a problem...

My observations suggest that the problem is not on QtVLM, for it can work using brainaid's software. It is the AGL, irrespective of the version, which has been unable to create the connection, and I haven't been able to figure out why...

I am sending a sample of the feedback AGL gives to me.

Hi, everyone!

During the last few days, I have had problems with Kipper's AutoGribLoader (AGL). It has been unable to create the TCP connection to communicate with QtVLM or Expedition.

As a result of this issue, I have had to use Brainaid's proxy. This is fine if you are taking part in just one race, but it becomes a problem if there are multiple races to manage, as it will be the case now (M2O Prelude + A3 Leg 8 + RTWR Leg 4).

My computer runs WIn 10, and I had never had such difficulties with the AGL until now.

I just would like to add one little thing.

As some of you already know, I came from the Virtual Regatta environment. There, the asymetry (of information, of starting times, of weather updates...) has been in favour of Europeans, and heavily in favour of French skippers.

While I was there, I questioned that imbalance. The answer went along the lines of "most of VR's customers are from Europe".

Granted, VR is an ordinary business, unlike SOL.

SRC has finalised the Calendar for 2017Q1 and here are the changes that you will see.
• The Management board has limited SRC to 100 races per annum and so that is 25 races per quarter.
• The Sprints have gone regional in a Series of six races for the three regions (Americas, Europe/Africa, ANZ/Far East) so that sailors off the water during that region’s winter have a Series to occupy their indoor spell with a start time amenable to that region. There will be three regional rounds with six races in each round for a total of 18 races, thus each calendar quarter will contain four or five races.
• The COGC championship is not being continued for 2017.
• The 40’ Series championship is new and this is where you will have the option of choosing at registration which 40’ yacht design you will use for each race from the three designs on offer over a six race series in Q1 and Q2. In the Series you cannot use one design more than twice so you will have to use each design twice. Choose wisely as your choice for that race cannot be changed. As always – Read the Notice of Race on the SOL HOME page before entering and preview the polars, the course and the weather using the GUEST boat facility (see links in the NOR). Subject to feedback and enjoyment, this 40’ Series championship is planned to continue for a second Series into Q3 and Q4 with changes if found necessary and/or called for.
• There has been some discussion over the most suitable time to start un-buddied races (Ocean, 40’ Series and Other Races). Just starting them at local times for their location did not seem to reflect our active membership so the Board has decided that, in the absence of a dictated or buddied start time, these races should start at a time amenable to Europe/Africa 65%, Americas 25% and ANZ/Far East 10%. This percentage allocation was drawn from the entry list for Xmas to Xmas 2016 (the Board had to use something and chose a very popular race). SRC has done its best to satisfy this decision.
• Finally SRC is adding a new Clause 4 to the Sailonline Racing Rules (‘SRR’) to ensure that SOL remains a game where the yachts are controlled by the skippers and not by independent 3rd party software in the skipper’s absence.

Round Greenland 2024

Just as Skip Novak was embarking for Kamchatsky, Amyr Klink also quietly slipped his Antarctica moorings and by now Paratii 2 has reached Reykjavik, where he invites you to join him on Leg 5 of our High Latitudes Series, a full 3650nm circumnavigation of Greenland. The course is clockwise round, so down the North Atlantic to Cape Farewell, then up the Davis Strait into Baffin Bay and on into the Arctic Ocean proper, where, hopefully and certainly virtually, Paratii 2’s special ice-breaker features will get us thorough the summer ice out onto the Greenland Sea and back to Reykjavik. San Francisco to Ushuaia 2024

After a superlong RTW-leg3 (27 days), we have had a month to recover, and maintain our boat, in order to continue our around the world race. Leg 4, even longer than the previous, takes us from California to the world's southernmost city Ushuaia. No waypoints, even "the Ditch" is an option, but maybe a bit too much of a treat. With 6300 nm to go, the estimated duration of this race 29 days. This course is also the August edition of our ocean race championship.
