    Hi Rainbowchaser: Thanks for your kind words.
    In fact, the "Regata Islas de Chiloe" took place in the summer of the southern hemisphere, in January.
    Now, in winter, winds from the north are predominant in the pacific coast of the island and a cold and very rainy weather is usual down there. In the interior waters, nevertheless, the winds are very variables and there´s a lot of currents, so it's a challenge to sail is such conditions.
    I believe that the real regatta could be raced in the winter season, however because is one of the Chiloe's most important touristic attractions of the year, many visitors goes to the Island to attend the regatta and that's why is raced in summer.

    OK SOLers. I have finished my kmz file with the race proposed. Is my first attemp to design a race and, of course, any suggestion, advice or criticism (in respectfully terms, of course) is welcomed.
    I believe that the Seacart 30 is the most suitable boat for this race.
    I hope you like it and in some time in the near future we meet in Chiloe Island to race.

    Thanks RainbowChaser and Tazumaki. I'm already working in the kmz file. Unfortunately the name "Regata Islas de Chiloe" is a trademark and can't be used without permission of the owners, the Club Nautico Oceanico de Chile (Chilean Oceanic Nautic Club).
    Maybe we can call the race "Chiloe Challenge". Don't sound bad, I believe.
    Please forgive my bad english, I'm chilean and a self taught in that language.
    As soon I finish the kmz file I'll post it to the community consideration.

    Race Suggestion - Chiloe Challenge

    For a very demanding race I suggest one rounding Chiloe Island in Chile.
    Here every two years the "Chiloe Islands Regatta" is raced and yachts from everywhere in Chile an from others countries in South America, like Argentina and Peru, meet in this beautiful part of my country to race in the most fabulous landscapes and within the most extreme sea, wind and currents conditions.
    Hope in the near future all SOL captains will be seen in such race.

    My humble suggestion is a monohull between 45 and 60 foot. I'm sure you have some boats of such type in your virtual fleet.
    But if is too late to make a change, let's sail in the Seacart! Will be a hell of a race, anyway.

    Yes, Bearski is right. The boat SOL chooses is not the best election. By the way, who -apart of a crazy guy- will sail a 30' multihull in such a hard race like the Sydney - Hobart? Don't you ever heard about the rough conditions in the Torres Strait?
    I believe SOL must try to keep the things as real as it gets.

Africa by Sea - Tangier to Abidjan


Whatever about pharaoh Necho II’s Phoenician expedition of the 7th C BCE, the Carthaginian Hanno the Navigator with more certainty sailed south from Tangier to explore the West African coast two centuries later, but how far he got is a matter of more conjecture. However, if he did the 2300nm to today’s Ivory Coast he would have found little there other than good shelter in the vast lagoons behind the dunes, much the same as today, excepting the highly industrialized port of Abidjan. Not a great haven for a stop-over but let’s take the 90ft Monohull anyway.

Sea Lion TIMED Race 2025

Come on down South for long days of sunlight and strong bracing winds to race our Finngulf 43 as many times as you like - 117nm as the albatross flies - through some of the islands of the Falklands archipelago. This is a TIMED race, so you may RE-REGISTER HERE to try again, after finishing a run. You will have 13 days and 11 hours to test your skill and decision making after the race opens.

Melbourne Osaka Cup Double-Handed Yacht Race 2025

Welcome once again to what these days is Sailonline’s almost annual virtual Melbourne to Osaka Yacht Race. In real life, this double-handed 5500 nm race between these two sister cities, one deep in the southern hemisphere, the other high in the northern hemisphere, is run every four to five years, and this year is such a year. So, this year’s online version is in sync with the Melbourne Osaka Cup 2025 organised by the Ocean Racing Club of Victoria (ORCV), and the Sandringham (SYC) and Osaka Hokko (OHYC) yacht clubs. We’ll be racing the well-known First 40, a popular size of boat which should be a good match for many of the boats entered in the real race. With the doldrums unavoidably lying across our course, you can expect to be at virtual sea for at least a month!
