This came as a blow... I have been on SOL since November 2011 and every single time I conversed with Aaron via chat or email he was pushing for me to get more competative. I do not how such a loss of knowledge can be replaced, how his whit can be replicated... Simple answer is that it cannot. When I joined just prior to the start of the SOL world race I was at a complete loss for a few days... 'Sailed' (if you could call it that) hopelessly blind. On day 3 Aaron sent me a message and showed me the way. I have never really had the opportunity to thank him for that... Now it is too late.
First SOLer to reply to and chat with me on chat... Thanks for that mate

Allright Aaron... I'll do better in future... in your memory chap.

Fair winds SOLer and sailor. Till we meet again.

I like to talk a lot... sometimes I even make sense, mostly not...
The news of Aaron's passing away saddens me deeply and my thoughts go out to his family. He will be sorely missed.

Last year Aaron gave me his framework for interfacing with the SOL server. His Polar Exlorer was one of the tools using this framework which is written in C#. He said at the time that he hoped others would expand on it, so I feel it only right I make it available.

Fair winds,

Unfortunately, words cannot bring him back to life, I doubt even if words can relieve a little bit the sorrow of his family.
I have never chatted with Aaron, but I admired his smartness and elegance in virtual sailing, his devotion to SOL and the help that was bringing all times at anybody who was asking him for advice.
I write this words in a desperate attempt to alleviate my own sadness.
I will miss you Aaron and I think a lot of you and of your little daughter.

Ας αναπαύεται η ψυχή σου εν ειρήνη. (May your soul rest in peace).

Ouch... :-(

This is sad. Positive vibrations to Aaron´s family.

The little I know him, I'm sure he was a great fellow.

Best wishes for his loved ones

Good wind for all
A great loss for all. My condolances to Aarons family.

De gestorvene

Zeven maal om de aarde gaan,
als het zou moeten op handen en voeten;

------------------------------------------
The Deceased

Seven times around the earth I go
if nescesarry on all fours;
seven times around to greet you
who would be waiting there smiling.
Seven times around the earth I go

Seven times over the seas I go
in skimpy clothes, what would I care,
if from the dead I could do return you .
Seven times over the seas I go
seven times to stand together.
(poem by Ida Gerhard)
------------------------------------------
Although i have never met him i hope you can find a little comfort knowing he has been an inspiration to me and this community.

Halifax to Hooper Bay 2024

And now it’s Autumn in the Arctic, the sun is permanently below the horizon, but during the day, from c 0900 to c 1700 local time, there is some twilight – nautical twilight, not to be confused with civil twilight which is brighter. Having receded all summer, ice is starting to return to the numerous straits and bays of Canada’s North West Passage. High time then to set off on our last leg of the High Latitudes Series from Halifax in Nova Scotia to Alaska’s Hooper Bay. It’s 3850nm and we need to hurry, so we’ll take the Pelagic 77!

The Beagle in Tahiti 2024

Leaving the Galapagos behind, the course was west again, and by November 15th the Beagle reached Tahiti. Like Gauguin, sixty years later, Darwin found the natives, recently Christianized, pleasant and intelligent, but unlike Gauguin, this did not persuade him or his captain, Fitzroy, to tarry long. Let’s have a sail-around in 2024 anyway; 640nm, as ever in the Class B Tall Ship HMS Beagle.
