I would have thought last place would be Rear Admiral!
It is a lifelong ambition... yes...
I like to talk a lot... sometimes I even make sense, mostly not...
So this is life... I bring two new fellows to SOL and all my SOL friends have to tell them about me is my Scow title...

:)
In future when you address me you need to stand at attention... neatly and a salute will be required as when addressing any officer of a fleet... ;-)

What-what-what??? A flee(t)ing 'ossifer' with an angry bar-maid chasing him..? With what is it that you wish to be saluted? An upraised finger...?

Or perhaps worse?....two upraised fingers?

If it breaks, it's not strong enough--if it doesn't, it's too heavy.
Hehe! I guess a thumb would be mostly appreciated ! :-)
On WW's request, after checking my references, "Commander" has been added between Lieutenant and Captain.

For some reason, this rating had been swept under the carpet...

Corrected ! :-)
Not wishing to complicate matters needlessly, I take pen in hand to communicate with Your Lordship the apparent lack of a most important rank in the Navel (the spelling is deliberate) Hierarchy, one that forms the boundary between the "Un-promotable" and the "future leaders of our maritime endeavors", namely that of "LIEUTENANT-COMMANDER". It is a rank that provides for the smooth transition from lowly, and unwashed, Lieutenant to the exalted rank of Commander-"Of whom great things are expected".
I beg to remain, Sir, your most obedient servant,
Landsman--late Sub-Lieutenant, of Her Majesty's Royal Canadian Navy (Reserve)--Rod.

Rod, as I checked my reference yesterday and as I wished to stick (more or less) to the noapoleonic wars ratings, i can tell you for sure that there was no Lieutnant-Commander at that time.

But, as we already added Rear Admiral (after Scots) because the idea was good. And because I added Vice admiral because one must be vicious to reach that rate.... why not add Lieutnant-Commander because you ask ? Your reasons for asking this rating being very... reasonable...

Lieutnant-Commander added !
Rules 6 and 7 added too. :-)

The Beagle in the Azores 2024

And west the Beagle went one final time to round the Cape of Good Hope on May 31 1836. Ashore, Darwin met up with the Astronomer Royal, Herschel, who just happened to be in South Africa at the same time mapping the southern skies. After sounding out his many ideas on evolution and extinction with Herschel, the Beagle now sailed north, stopping briefly in St Helena, Ascension and Brazil, and the Cape Verdes again, to reach the Azores on September 19, 1836. Fitzroy and Darwin at this stage were in a hurry to get back to Britain, but online in 2024 we will stay a little longer to explore this final remote archipelago in our virtual Tall Ship Class B Beagle, 630nm round and about the islands, minding as always in these waters not to bump into any large cetaceans!

Welcome to Lake Victoria, home of the final sprint of Q4 and 2024. This Saturday we will sail our Lasers from Kaazi to Entebbe - 18 odd English miles in a cooling breeze, however slight it might be. Friends there will host an end of year BBQ of Luwombo, Muchomo, Matoke, and other delicacies. We will all sleep well after that. Now that the year is done relax and take in some sights like the Botanical Gardens and National Zoo. Enjoy the holidays and rest, 2025 sprints are a month away.
