Board » Technical Support » New issue, this time on my iMac

I've updated the browser to the latest version which Apple just released. (Safari 5.1 (6534.50))

The new issue is that the cursor disappears when over the SOL window. I can see the cursor cross move on the map but the cursor is invisible over buttons and the weather bar.

I have to click outside the window in Finder to get a visible cursor for aiming in the SOL window.

This could be a Java bug or Flash issue.

BTW on the subject of Flash; Apple are going to "kill" Flash by stopping support of it in the OS. How will this affect SOL? And will I be able to sail in the future if I upgrade to OSX Lion?

Some extra info if it helps the fault finding...

The cursor goes invisible as soon as it enters the browser window of SOL. I get the map cross as soon as I'm hovering above the map. Hovering over a button or outside of the map window doesn't bring the cursor back.
The only way I've just found is by accidentally passing over the ad at the bottom of the page. Then it switches to the hand symbol.
Hi chksix - I have brought this thread to the attention of the Development Dudes.. hopefully one will be able to help!

:-)
Not sure about the cursor thing - sounds like a flash bug. Apple is not going to kill flash - they're just not going to ship it by default with Safari.

You could also try Chrome - it ships with its own flash version embedded!
using Safari here, last version, no sign of this bug.
ITA You are running Lion now right?

Good to hear that Flash won't be blocked in the OS :)
I'll check for an update again more often.

If there's an improvement I'll post here to help others if they run into similar issues.
yes, but I did not experience any issues with Snow Leopard either.
Ok,
An extension update arrived this morning so I'll go to the SOL race again and check if it helped.

Edit: Nope still the same cursor behaviour.
My version of Flash: Shockwave Flash 10.2 r152

I have the same problem with the cursor in Lion.

It seems there is a problem with flash causing the custom cursor (crosshairs) to not display correctly. In my case the its a case of focus. Inside the sol window its okay. Outside it has problems jumping back. This issue also pops up when in the steer tabs.

Official bug list from Adobe.
" Flash Player
Flash Player may cause higher CPU activity when playing a YouTube video. Possibly related to disabled hardware acceleration.
The Flash Player settings dialog does not respond to mouse clicks.
Custom native mouse cursors are not animating properly on Mac 10.7."

We will just have to wait for a fix for this I'm afraid.

*update: Chrome handles the display of the cursor correctly, this might be a solution for the cursor until Adobe finds a fix for Safari.

Round Greenland 2024

Just as Skip Novak was embarking for Kamchatsky, Amyr Klink also quietly slipped his Antarctica moorings and by now Paratii 2 has reached Reykjavik, where he invites you to join him on Leg 5 of our High Latitudes Series, a full 3650nm circumnavigation of Greenland. The course is clockwise round, so down the North Atlantic to Cape Farewell, then up the Davis Strait into Baffin Bay and on into the Arctic Ocean proper, where, hopefully and certainly virtually, Paratii 2’s special ice-breaker features will get us thorough the summer ice out onto the Greenland Sea and back to Reykjavik. Stay warm!
