I heard the sound of eight bells. So sorry to read the tragic news about this skipper. Fair winds to you Finn in your final journey.
Tom
I always looked on Bimmer as a great competitor.Initially, he took exception to some of my more abrasive and controversial remarks on chat.....and I respected him for that Things settled sown when I was banned.....as one would expect.....but..... in almost every subsequent race, I always wondered...."What's Bimmer up to?"
Great soler. I am quite shocked at the news of his death...and feel privileged to take part in this memorial race in his honour.
I would like to sponsor a year's membership for Finn. Any month for a one year membership. :-)

Tama - I'll pass this message on to Piero for SMPF /RainbowChaser

I'll miss my SOL friend Bimmer, always on the "Friends" list. He tried to teach me routing (and spent a couple of hours trying to get me started), but I never learnt it, definitely not the teacher's fault. So I'm SOTP and will probably remain so.
Where ever you are now Bimmer, I wish you fair winds!
Several years ago, I was catching up to the pack in some race. I came across Bimmer's boat, bbq'd. He started moving again and I noticed him saying in the chat "how about a match race to the next marker?" or something like that. He had spotted me a lead, beat me to the marker pretty easily anyway - but he did so with very cheerful, joyous and helpful hints in his chat comments. In more recent years, I've participated in many Practice Races with him, always a happy experience. Don't even feel like I miss him yet - his presence is emanating all over the Memorial Race, as if he's still here with us! RIP Finn aka Bimmer
My first memory of Bimmer was when I could not get my Qt to sync. He was quick to reach out and share his wisdom on how to get Java to sync with my NMEA connections, and got me up and running.
On the race course, I remember during the first Odyssey race he Barbequed and when he got back to his boat about 30 minutes later, he very cheerfully jumped back in. One of the others commented "Bummer Bimmer" and he cheerfully replied something like, "it happens!"
Finally most recently, we were in close competition in a race, and he missed the mark rounding by just a hair, and I sent him a message to make sure he knew as soon as possible. As has always been my experience with Bimmer, he was gracious and appreciative when he got back to his boat.
Always a gentleman, and someone that will truly be missed at SOL.
Peace and light Finn. 😢
Let Bimmer's record on SOL live on forever

Round Greenland 2024

Just as Skip Novak was embarking for Kamchatsky, Amyr Klink also quietly slipped his Antarctica moorings and by now Paratii 2 has reached Reykjavik, where he invites you to join him on Leg 5 of our High Latitudes Series, a full 3650nm circumnavigation of Greenland. The course is clockwise round, so down the North Atlantic to Cape Farewell, then up the Davis Strait into Baffin Bay and on into the Arctic Ocean proper, where, hopefully and certainly virtually, Paratii 2’s special ice-breaker features will get us thorough the summer ice out onto the Greenland Sea and back to Reykjavik. Stay warm!

San Francisco to Ushuaia 2024

After a superlong RTW-leg3 (27 days), we have had a month to recover, and maintain our boat, in order to continue our around the world race. Leg 4, even longer than the previous, takes us from California to the world's southernmost city Ushuaia. No waypoints, even "the Ditch" is an option, but maybe a bit too much of a treat. With 6300 nm to go, the estimated duration of this race 29 days. This course is also the August edition of our ocean race championship.
