Board » Technical Support » QtVlm polar for Trireme O

Page: Previous 1 2 3 Next

For the people who always use AGL to get the boat polars for use in qtVLM or other routing program, and are now looking for another source after using my AGL workaround as posted above.

The trireme polar posted on Brainaid site is also showing some issues afaik. I am attaching the detailed TriremeV2 polar that I have used in qtVLM for Leg 1 of this series.
(Note: better remove any old "boat_Trireme OlympiasV2" polars that are sitting in your qt polars folder before importing this as the new one).
Cheers.

Here is the polar data for the not-the-V2 Trireme, that will work in QtVLm

they're both the same, just got duplicated.

It might just be me, but I did the steps by Zorba to get AGL working. It is.
I tried the DC Checker, way out of whack since I used the Orange Cat file.
But I did recopy the <bs_spline> line from the 1388 race, Leg 1 and pasted just that line in again after the initial steps by Zorba.

Then it seemed to me the AGL was reflecting the DC checker correctly. Not a massive wall of pink. So, maybe that is working too now. Will need someone with a clearer head to validate this additional step as it's late for me now.

I just found a workaround to get AGL to work for downloading the WX updates and for setting DCs (...)
...

Zorba, how do I know I have the correct polar or not?

When I open my auth_raceinfo_1389.xml, I see <name>Trireme Olympias</name> and not V2.

Should I use V2 or non-V2? Thanks!

Hi Pedro,

The AGL fix is a different issue from the V1 versus V2 polar chart question.

The fix I posted was to get AGL working for pulling WX updates to be used in qt or other routing program. That fix does not solve the issue that AGL has with interpolating the Trireme polar.

Re: V1 or V2.
In leg 1 of this series we used V2 of the polar, which always goes at least 2 kts on oars, even in 0 kts winds.

For this leg we mistakenly started with V1 of the polar (race setup error). So, for this race you need to use V1, which is the polar that @Bonk posted a few hours after I have posted the V2 polar.
Bottom line: we use V1 for this race. But for Leg 3 and leg 4 we will be back to the normal (and better) V2.

Dan
Hi David /Renegade,

The fix I posted during leg 1 works to get AGL to pull the WX updates. It also works to set, delete or edit DCs, afaik. It will not work to "check" DCs because to do that it would need the correct polar.

Basically all we do with the fix is deliberately put in a wrong polar (any polar), so that AGL skips the polar interpolation step that causes it to stop working.
Dan,

Ok, so my current question is: how do I know if the polar my AGL downloaded (<name>Trireme Olympias</name>) is the same V1 @Bonk posted here, is V2 or is another third version?

[I did't run other legs and my AGL has no problems downloading WXs.]

Thanks for your help.

Pedro,

Afaik, the polar that AGL downloads comes direct from server, so it should be the polar that is used for this leg.

The problem is more for people who import the polar into qt or other routing software. That is V1 for this leg, so the V2 polar that was used in leg 1 cannot be re-used for this race. In leg 3 and 4 we will be on the better V2 again.

To check if you have the correct polar in your AGL you can open it in a text editor and check. If it V2 it will do about 2 kts boat speed at 0 kts wind speed. If it does between 0 and 1 kts boat speed at wind speeds of 1 kts or less, then you know it is V1, which is the correct polar for this leg.
Hi Dan,
I do realize that, and found that if I copied the polar numbers line again from the leg 1 race, it's a much closer match to the actual polar we have now. I probably should copy it from a backup of 1389 xml file to put in the exact numbers.
But now it appears the DC checker is accurate for me. No massive pink wall.
