Special characters are not supported in the current version. Fixed for the next version.
I use an old version of AGL. Only for the easy nmea output to port 5010 for any race I choose. For routing I use 'BlueWater Racing'.
But for the grib files I have to use brainaid's tools.
AGL and Brainaid use the same named grib-file but I get a load of errors when trying to load the AGL-grib into BWR. Something about being semi-oblique. Brainaid's grib works flawless.

Apart from this grib-annoyance, the latest AGL versions, that are introducing an "own JAVA version" do not work at all with me.
(I have installed the latest JAVA version because I need that for JAVA based apps.(for example brainaids 'NMEAproxy.jnlp') maybe that is a cause of AGL not working?).

I am trying to set up AGL on my WIN 10 Xi CAD home workstation to permit logging the fleet of CCA/SOL cruising simulation passages. Zorba pointed to AGL as a means of documenting optimal selection of departure windows and routes to achieve minimal fuel burn and most comfortable sailing weather. I do not see the AG14installDir.bat in the windows_bat\ subdirectory.
I also do not have race folders set up yet.

Bill, I sent you an email yesterday. Did you get it. Please check junk folders.

AGL 14 uses it's own runtime environment (the new requirement post version 8, which is no longer supported) and has nothing to do with the installed versions. If you have set it up right as per the instructions, it will work.

I have no idea what the issue with Bluewater is. The grib is written according to the specification and works in qtVlm, Expedition and other viewers with no issues. If you can identify what is wrong with it, I may be able to fix it.
@kipper1258
re grib in BWR:
"For all records BWR shows following remark:
grib: Record 0: Thinned or quasi-regular grids are not supported."

re "own runtime java":

I have installed since using brainaid's nmeaproxy the most recent version oracle runtime java environment.

All AGL versions worked until the "own java environment" was introduced.

Installed latest agl. Got it working. Still same grib errors in BWR.

Thus uninstalled AGL and will rely on Brainaid's tools.

Kipper,

I did not get your email and undoubtedly tossed it with the flood of junk mail. Please resend and let me know at least the first part of your email address so I can watch for your message.

THANKS!
Bill

Windows does not show file extensions by default. In that case you should see only 'AG14installDir'
Clicking on it should work.

I've put up a new version which is available here called AGL_14_3_0_update.zip and is an update as per the install instructions in the manual. This version includes the ability to insert and move DCs. I have also finally fixed the http 403 error and getting token infinite loop, plus special characters are supported in passwords.

The user manual has also been update to match this version.

The full installs have also been updated to this version.

Enjoy.

Transat à Deux 2025

Above you see a single-handed sailor semi-foiling his Beneteau Figaro III to the horizon. It is in fact Ireland’s Sailor of the Year and the overall winner of last year’s Solitaire du Figaro, Tom Dolan. Somehow, we got our hands on a polar for the Class, and rather than trying to surreptitiously track Tom and his mates in the 2025 edition of the Solitaire, sailing rather-short, single-handed legs across the Celtic Sea and Biscay, we thought we’d see how our virtual craft would fare on the Class’s double-handed 3900nm Trans-Atlantic, from somewhere in Brittanny to somewhere in the Caribbean via somewhere in the Canaries. Allez, mes braves!

Sinbad by Balloon 2025 - Toamasina to Baia de l'Oiseau

You may recall that when last we visited Madagascar in the company of Sinbad, the Sultan commanded our intrepid inspirator to seek out fabled islands where in Summer the sun barely set. We did and we returned but the Sultan wasn’t happy with Sinbad’s report, so here we go again, now by SOL Balloon instead of sailing vessel. Expect to be in the air for at least 2100nm and depending on how the wind brings us, anything between two weeks and two months before we shall descend at the Sultan’s given coordinates!

Melbourne Osaka Cup Double-Handed Yacht Race 2025

Welcome once again to what these days is Sailonline’s almost annual virtual Melbourne to Osaka Yacht Race. In real life, this double-handed 5500 nm race between these two sister cities, one deep in the southern hemisphere, the other high in the northern hemisphere, is run every four to five years, and this year is such a year. So, this year’s online version is in sync with the Melbourne Osaka Cup 2025 organised by the Ocean Racing Club of Victoria (ORCV), and the Sandringham (SYC) and Osaka Hokko (OHYC) yacht clubs. We’ll be racing the well-known First 40, a popular size of boat which should be a good match for many of the boats entered in the real race. With the doldrums unavoidably lying across our course, you can expect to be at virtual sea for at least a month!
