Hi Andrew.
Does the 3.0.9 include this fix?

Edited: Forget my stupid question :-)

Version 3.1.0 is now available and has the following enhancements:

1. SOL radio button on parameters tab logs the boat in as SOL. No need to change ID and password.
2. Features for the 40 ft Series
i. Added polar library for qtVlm boat polars. Polars automatically copied to the library if the polar does not already exist in that folder.
ii. Support for an alternative polar to be used
iii. Boat speeds in the Boat Data table will use the correct polar, provided it exists in the polar library
3. Added GPX export for waypoint files
4. Added editing commands (move, insert, delete, edit) for waypoints (OpenGL editor only)
5. Optional clean up of the polar directory. Deletes all polar files not applicable to the current race (Does not affect the polar library)
6. Automatic clean up of other files no longer applicable to the current active races.
7. Ability to graphically subset a grib. (OpenGL editor only)

Bug fixes – 3.1.0

1. Maps have been cleaned up to fix errors caused with the Longitude 180 E.
2. Import and export of GPX files now works.
I should also mention that if you have set AGL correctly in the past according to the install instructions, you should only have to put AutoGribLoader 3 1 0.jar in the same folder as the old version (e.g. AutoGribLoader 3 0 9.jar), and then run AGVersion.bat included in the zip file. This will cause AG.bat to now use the correct version.
I've included a copy of all the 40ft polars, both here and with the new release. These will need to reside in the polar library for the Boat Data Table to work correctly in the 40ft Series.

I forgot to include this in the User Guide.

If the first DC time falls inside the haulback period (one hour before the race start), the trace is modified to reflect the result in the real race. No changes are made to the actual DC’s. This works in the following way.
A scan of the DC’s is made and the last DC before the race start is determined. Any DC’s earlier than that one are ignored ( the last DC to fire in the haulback period sets the boat’s course, the others are redundant). The time of that DC is adjusted to the race start time and the remaining DC’s are then computed. This prevents the drift in the trace caused by the boat having velocity, but not actually moving in the haul back period.

A new copy of the user guide is now available.

There is a problem with the OpenGL map rendering with the Golden Globe leg 2. I'm trying to work out how to fix it and it could take a while. A temporary work around which will work for the next few weeks is to do the following.
1.In the folder SOLGribXml, open the file auth_raceinfo_1181.xml.
2. On line 9 change <maxlon>360.0</maxlon> to <maxlon>359.9</maxlon>
3. Save the file and restart AGL.

This will fix the southern hemisphere.

There is also an issue that the IRL boats are outside the grib area and is causing the AIS engine to repor errors. This is not serious and I will fix that at the same time.
I think that this is what you need to do.

Firstly, I think you need to install bash, the command line equivalent to windows.
Then,
1. Make a folder for placing the .jar file. Suggest you make a root folder sol, and under that, java.
2. Make the maplibrary folder under sol
3. Unzip the maps there
4. Make a race folder (eg, race1), copy the .ini file into there.
5. Make sure you have java installed
6. Make a file called agl.sh and add these lines to it

#!/bin/bash
setenv AGVersion autoGribLoader 3 1 1.jar
setenv AGInstallDir /sol/java/
java -jar $AGInstallDir$AGVersion autoGribLoader.ini $AGVersion
read -p Press any key to continue....
exit

Note: autoGribLoader 3 1 .jar must match the latest jar file version that is in the folder /sol/java/ . Edit these two lines as necessary.

7. Start a bash shell (use your terminal window) and cd to /sol/race1, where the agl.sh resides. Enter the command

chmod +x agl.sh

8. You should now be able to run agl.sh which should launch AGL. You can now configure as per manual.
9. You can now make more race folders for your different races, and copy agl.sh and the autoGribLoader.ini across into those folders.

Remember to change to port number for each AGL instance. If a port number is already in use, it cannot be used by AGL.
I'm not sure why, but underscores are being stripped out. The spaces in autoGribLoader 3 1 1.jar are underscores.

Also, if these instructions are not quite correct, please update. I don't have a Mac or Linux.

If someone does get these working, please add to a zip file and upload and I will add to future releases.

Version 3.1.1 is now available which fixes the rendering and some other issues with Golden Globe leg 2.

If you have set up AGL correctly in the past according to the install instructions, you should only have to download put AutoGribLoader 3 1 1.jar in the same folder as the old version (e.g. AutoGribLoader 3 1 0.jar), and then download and run AGVersion.bat. This will cause AG.bat to now use the correct version.

Both these files are in the root of the OneDrive folder link.

In the same place as previous version. This is a patch for the Longship Drake polar.

Halifax to Hooper Bay 2024

And now it’s Autumn in the Arctic, the sun is permanently below the horizon, but during the day, from c 0900 to c 1700 local time, there is some twilight – nautical twilight, not to be confused with civil twilight which is brighter. Having receded all summer, ice is starting to return to the numerous straits and bays of Canada’s North West Passage. High time then to set off on our last leg of the High Latitudes Series from Halifax in Nova Scotia to Alaska’s Hooper Bay. It’s 3850nm and we need to hurry, so we’ll take the Pelagic 77!

The Beagle in Tahiti 2024

Leaving the Galapagos behind, the course was west again, and by November 15th the Beagle reached Tahiti. Like Gauguin, sixty years later, Darwin found the natives, recently Christianized, pleasant and intelligent, but unlike Gauguin, this did not persuade him or his captain, Fitzroy, to tarry long. Let’s have a sail-around in 2024 anyway; 640nm, as ever in the Class B Tall Ship HMS Beagle.
